Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM)
Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) is a powerful addition to existing strategies to reduce the risk of suicide death in at-risk people while respecting their rights and autonomy. Help keep at-risk individuals safe by learning how to collaborate with them to implement safe storage of firearms and dangerous medications.
Counseling on Access to Lethal Means is not an introductory level suicide prevention training. This training assumes you know a basic knowledge about the public health approach to suicide prevention. This course involves prolonged discussion on difficult topics related to suicide and lethal means. CALM is not recommended for persons with lived experience or a history of trauma, especially within the last 2 years. Each situation is different and we cannot be responsible for adverse workshop outcomes.
