Important Session Information:


This session will take place at ESC-20 Maple Conference Center (1314 Hines) in the Alamo Science Lab located on the ground floor.  

This session will delve into effective strategies for teaching and reinforcing science vocabulary, a crucial foundation for deep understanding. We will explore a variety of "sticky" vocabulary techniques designed to make science terms memorable and meaningful for students.

  • Beyond Definitions: Move beyond rote memorization by engaging students in active learning strategies that go beyond simply defining terms.
  • Visual and Kinesthetic Approaches: Discover creative ways to make abstract science concepts concrete, such as using graphic organizers, concept maps, and hands-on activities to build vocabulary connections.
  • Student-Centered Strategies: Explore strategies that empower students to take ownership of their vocabulary learning, such as peer teaching, vocabulary journals, and games.

Participants will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the importance of vocabulary development in science learning.
  • Learn a repertoire of effective and engaging strategies for teaching and reinforcing science vocabulary.
  • Develop practical strategies for implementing these techniques in their science classrooms.
