This session will take place at ESC-20 Maple Conference Center (1314 Hines) in the Alamo Science Lab located on the ground floor.
This session will focus on enhancing classroom discourse through the effective use of questioning strategies. We will explore the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a student-centered approach that empowers learners to generate their own compelling questions about a science topic.
Goals for Session:
- Move Beyond Teacher-Led Questions: Move away from traditional teacher-directed questioning and engage students in active inquiry by guiding them to develop their own research questions.
- Developing Critical Thinking Skills: The QFT encourages students to ask their own questions.
- Implementing QFT in the Science Classroom: Learn practical strategies for implementing QFT in various science units and activities.
Participants will:
- Gain a deep understanding of the QFT and its benefits for science learning.
- Learn how to effectively guide students through the QFT process.
- Develop practical strategies for implementing QFT in their own science classrooms.
- Have the opportunity to practice the QFT with a science-related topic.
