Every Move Counts, Clicks and Chats is a 6 session, 18 week training program for
teachers of, and caregivers for, individuals with complex bodies and complex
communication needs. It consists of both self-paced and group-interactive sessions, with on-line office hours available. The first session will be released on September 23rd and then approximately every three weeks. Following session 2, 3, 4, and 5 a one-hour interactive session (Live On-line Group discussion, aka Chat n’ Chew) with the trainer will be held on: Tuesday 10/29/24 9:00-10:00 am CT, Wednesday 11/13/24 9:00-10:00 am CT, Wednesday 12/11/24 9:00-10:00 am CT, and Wednesday 1/8/25 9:00-10:00 am CT.
Sessions will be opened at 3-week intervals. Each session will begin with an explanation
of an assignment for that course so that as participants complete the formal
presentation, they will be prepared to apply the new knowledge and discuss results in
the on-line discussion group for that class.
There will be two assignment options for each session. For those who are working with
the students for whom the strategies are appropriate, the assignment will be application
of the new knowledge and a brief summary and interpretation of the outcomes. For
those professionals who may not currently have an opportunity to apply the new
information, there will be a question(s) that requires thoughtful application of the new
information and the implications of that information.
Participants are to view the presentation in the first week that it is opened, then spend
the following 2 weeks applying what they have learned & working on the assignment. The on-line self-paced modules are tracked, and will include assignments.
Upon completion participants will be able to:
• distinguish language from communication and understand the different skills
necessary for each.
• recognize and assess abilities rather than disabilities through a process-oriented
assessment approach.
• connect assessment and intervention.
• effectively integrate communication training into daily activities by providing
appropriate choice-making opportunities.
• progress through a hierarchy of alternate and augmentative communication systems to identify and provide the system that best meets an individual's needs and
abilities.
• Collect, analyze, and respond to meaningful data.
