ESC-20 provides training and technical support related to inclusive services for students with disabilities to gain access to the general curriculum. Conference Highlights:

  • Opening Session:
    Elvin Houston: Navigating the Most Challenging ARDs in Our Region
    Elvin Houston will open the conference by reviewing common challenges in the ARD process, with a focus on difficult cases in our region. He will provide expert insights on how to avoid common pitfalls, improve collaboration, and create a more effective ARD process that benefits both students and educators.

  • Breakout Sessions:
    Throughout the day, participants will choose from several breakout sessions led by expert speakers, each offering a unique perspective on key topics such as:

    • Managing ARDs involving Low Incidence Disabilities (LID)
    • Designing effective behavior plans that support student success
    • Nursing services and accommodations within the ARD framework
    • Supporting students with dyslexia and navigating appropriate accommodations
    • Ensuring smooth transitions for students with disabilities
    • Common PEIMS errors
    • Supporting LPAC ARDs
    • Early Childhood transitions and continuum of services   
  • Guest Speaker: Kelly Joseph: former ESC20 special education statewide liaison
    TEA Audits and ARD Paperwork: What You Need to Know
    Our guest speaker will dive into the intricacies of TEA audits and share best practices for preparing and organizing ARD documentation. Learn how to ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective record-keeping to avoid common mistakes during audits.

  • Panel Discussion:
    ARD Panel with LEA Directors
    To close out the day, a panel of directors from various Local Education Agencies (LEAs) will answer burning questions about ARDs. From best practices to compliance challenges, the panel will provide valuable insights and actionable advice on navigating complex ARD processes.

  • Lunch:
    Lunch will be provided, offering attendees an opportunity to network, share ideas, and discuss strategies for revitalizing ARDs within their own districts.
