Join us for a day of learning with fellow educators and district leaders who are passionate about creating inclusive programs for Emergent Bilingual learners. With the continued increase of Emergent Bilingual students in classrooms across Texas, it is crucial that we provide a framework grounded in the science of reading to identify and build on the language assets that students bring to the classroom.
Here’s what we’ll focus on:
· How to integrate language development and language arts standards and strategies into instruction
· How to support students at different levels of language development and within different grade levels—including secondary
· How biliteracy trajectories can be implemented at the classroom, school, and district levels to inform instructional decisions and support bilingual students’ success
Join us as we take an evidence-based approach to helping educators to more fully support literacy development in both languages. We look forward to seeing you there!
Agenda:
· 9:00–9:15 am: Registration and networking (coffee & light refreshments provided)
· 9:15–9:30 am: Welcome—ESC 20 and the Renaissance Texas Team
· 9:30–10:30 am: Keynote: Understanding Biliteracy Trajectories
Description: Biliteracy trajectories provide more than a longitudinal view of a student's progress in developing literacy skills in two languages. They acknowledge the development of literacy skills in two languages as interconnected systems rather than separate linguistic systems. This holistic approach recognizes that languages can mutually reinforce each other, providing educators a more comprehensive understanding of a student's literacy development.
