Join Abigail Gatlin, Occupational Therapy Doctoral Student with University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), as she shares ways to integrate fine motor development into every day classroom activities. This session will focus on critical principles of handwriting and fine motor development that can be implemented into the general education and special education classroom. Topics will include key hand milestones and development, factors that can impact a student’s handwriting, common mistakes with handwriting worksheets, classroom activities to improve handwriting and fine motor skills, and strategies for implementation and collaboration with occupational therapy practitioners. Discussion and interactive activities will be incorporated to demonstrate application of these principles.
Intended audience is general education teachers, special education teachers, and occupational therapy practitioners working with students from early childhood to fourth grade.
