Virtual: Understanding the Impact of Being Deaf/Hard of Hearing on Language, Communication and Curriculum



ESC-20 provides regional leadership, technical assistance, and staff development to clients in the area of family engagement. ESC-20 also provides resources and training opportunities for parents and families of students served within federal programs, including, but not limited to, Title I, Title III, Special Education, and Head Start.

Important Session Information:


A hearing difference creates many challenges for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), and deaf education teams including parents can minimize these challenges. In this session, parents will learn what students who are DHH need to be able to access the curriculum. Topics will include the impact of hearing difference on language development and academic success, types and degrees of hearing loss, Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT), deaf education team collaboration, and appropriate accommodations and strategies for students who are DHH.
