Coaching Lab: Empowering Coaches to Cultivate Deeper Student Reasoning: Part 2



ESC-20 provides professional development and technical assistance to support educators with implementation of the Mathematics TEKS by analyzing data to enhance instructional practices to meet the needs of students, and provides targeted support to reach campus and district goals.

Session Description:

Building on the foundation of understanding critical thinking in math instruction, this session focuses on how coaches can embed, sustain, and spread deeper student reasoning across multiple classrooms.
Participants will practice high-leverage coaching moves, co-design mini-units and tasks, and use real student work evidence to drive ongoing teacher growth.

 


 

Session Objectives:

By the end of Part 2, participants will:

  • Apply coaching strategies to strengthen classroom discourse and reasoning over time.

  • Design mini-cycles of coaching (observe → plan → reflect) centered on growing critical thinking.

  • Use student work analysis and classroom videos as coaching tools.

Build a sustainable site-level plan for deepening mathematical thinking across teams.
