Empowering Educators: Effective Strategies for Supporting Newcomer Students in Secondary Social Studies



ESC-20 provides professional development and technical assistance to support educators with implementation of the Social Studies TEKS, analyze data to enhance instructional practices to meet the needs of students, and provides targeted support to reach campus and district goals.

Supporting Newcomer students in secondary social studies classrooms can be both a challenge and an opportunity. This engaging professional development session equips educators with practical CBLI strategies to make content accessible, foster language development, and create an engagement learning environment. Participants will explore using Ai to easily scaffold, and choose interactive approaches to help Newcomer students engage meaningfully with history. Stay with us for the afternoon session that will be focused on facilitating implementation and targeted support.
