Is your district prepared to implement the recent changes to the Special Education Assignment rules? Do you need support in identifying which teachers are impacted by the new requirements? If so, consider hosting a TASPA Qualifying a Special Education Teacher Workshop to ensure your staff is informed and compliant.
Beginning September 1, 2025, districts will be required to utilize the new Texas Content Competency Worksheet to determine the qualifications of Special Education teachers of record responsible for delivering content instruction, in cases where they have not passed the appropriate content certification exam(s). This new worksheet will replace the previously used HOUSSE Worksheets.
This comprehensive three-hour workshop, led by TASPA staff member Kathy Cervantez, provides an in-depth overview of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Chapter 231 Special Education certification requirements, the Texas Content Competency Worksheet, Special Education HOUSSE Grandfathering Provisions, and the options for unqualified special education teachers.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities designed to assess a teacher’s eligibility for a special education assignment by completing the necessary worksheets.
The training will include time for Q&A, and participants are encouraged to bring specific scenarios or questions from their districts for review.
