In this session, participants will learn how Prekindergarten children generate hypotheses about written language and progress from requesting adult transcription to independently imitating writing through "pretend" stages. Educators will explore how these early experiences allow children to develop foundational understandings of the forms, features, and functions of written communication as they gradually approximate conventional writing. Attendees will examine the teacher’s role as a model and guide, demonstrating how to write for diverse purposes both for and with students. Ultimately, participants will learn to facilitate a variety of authentic experiences that empower young learners to transition from observing writing to independently expressing their own ideas.
While registration is not required for Part 1 and Part 2 it is recommended.
