This two-day in-person training is designed to show participants how to effectively use the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment, Second Edition (TPBA2). The session emphasizes a team approach to evaluating children between the ages of two and five. Participants will learn how to assess a child’s developmental level, learning style, temperament, motivation, and interaction patterns. The training focuses on four key developmental domains: cognitive, social-emotional, communication and language, and sensorimotor.

Participants will also receive a copy of the TPBA training manual and administration guide. 

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Implement the TPBA2 protocol to assess any child’s developmental level and learning style.
• Evaluate four primary domains of development: cognitive, social-emotional, communication and language, and sensorimotor.
• Identify specific child characteristics, including temperament, motivation, and interaction patterns through play-based observation.
• Apply a transdisciplinary team approach to the assessment process to ensure comprehensive results.
• Conduct best-practice assessment specifically tailored for children in the two-to-five-year-old age range.
• Understand eligibility/requirements for initial TPBA2 certification as well as advance certifications, such as Play Facilitator, Family Facilitator, and Coach

About the Presenter: 

Dr. Chris Miller is an educational consultant and former district administrator with extensive experience in early childhood systems and special education. He is a Certified Trainer for the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment, 2nd Edition.

Credentials and Education:

• Ed.D. in Educational Equity and Leadership (Specialty: Early Childhood/Executive Leadership) from the University of Colorado Denver.
• Ed.S. in School Psychology (Certification: Early Childhood School Psychology) from the University of Northern Colorado.
• Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).
• Licensed School Principal (K-12).

Dr. Miller has held high-level leadership roles, including Principal Consultant (State Child Find Specialist) for the Colorado Department of Education and Senior Manager for Preschool/Child Find for Denver Public Schools. He is a published author on the topic of TPBA, having co-authored guidance on Virtual Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment-2 and online guidance for the TPBA2 protocol. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver, teaching courses on early childhood development and assessment.
