VIRTUAL Recognizing and Responding to Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Youth

Professional development for school counselors is aligned with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and supports work in the four service delivery components: Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support.

Important Session Information:

Target Audience: School professionals and adults working with youth.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) can be concerning and confusing for the adults who care for and support young people. This informative session is designed for adults working with youth who want to better understand what NSSI is, why it may occur, and the difference between self-injury and suicidal intent.

Participants will learn common warning signs, behaviors, and emotional indicators that may suggest a young person is engaging in self-harming behaviors. The session will also provide practical guidance on how to respond calmly and compassionately, start supportive conversations, reduce shame, and connect youth with appropriate resources and professional support. Join us to build confidence in recognizing concerns early and responding in ways that promote safety, healing, and hope.
