Bilingual/English as a Second Language (BESL)
Translanguaging (half-day)

"The Bilingual/ESL team provides high quality support to districts with
program implementation, planning, technical assistance, as
well as specialized professional development to effectively meet the
cognitive, linguistic, and affective needs of English learners."

Important Session Information:

This half-day professional learning session will deepen participants’ understanding of translanguaging as a powerful instructional approach that leverages students’ full linguistic repertoire to support language development and content learning. Participants will explore what translanguaging is — and what it is not — while examining how it can look in bilingual and dual language classrooms.
Educators will engage with practical planning tools and classroom strategies, including Preview-View-Review and Así se dice, to intentionally support bilingualism, biliteracy, comprehension, and student discourse. Participants will leave with concrete strategies they can immediately implement to create more inclusive and rigorous learning experiences for emergent bilingual students.
