The Role of the School Counselor in the School Behavior Threat Assessment Process

School counselors play a vital role in promoting safe, supportive learning environments while ensuring students receive the care and intervention they need. This virtual session is designed to help school counselors understand their unique role within the school behavior threat assessment process.

Participants will explore the counselor's responsibilities before, during, and after a threat assessment, including gathering relevant information, supporting students and families, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and implementing appropriate interventions and progress monitoring. Grounded in best practices and school-based applications, this session will build participants' confidence in contributing to comprehensive threat assessment efforts while maintaining a student-centered, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes both safety and student well-being.
