Using Motivational Interviewing Techniques During School Behavior Threat Assessment Interviews

Effective threat assessment interviews require more than gathering information—they require building trust and fostering meaningful conversations. In this virtual session, school counselors will learn how to apply motivational interviewing techniques to engage students with empathy, reduce defensiveness, and encourage honest dialogue during school behavior threat assessment interviews. Participants will gain practical strategies for asking purposeful questions, strengthening rapport, and supporting student-centered interventions while contributing to a comprehensive threat assessment process.
