Target Audience: Kindergarten to 2nd Grade Teachers, Math Interventionists, and Instructional Coaches and Specialists
We know that young children need hands-on experiences to understand abstract math concepts. But there is a big difference between students playing with manipulatives and students learning from them. How do we transform a bucket of plastic counters from a distraction into a powerful tool for mathematical thinking?
In this highly collaborative, interactive workshop, K-2 educators will discover how to intentionally bridge the gap between concrete objects, visual drawings, and abstract equations. We will look past the surface-level "fun" of manipulatives to target foundational skills.
Crucially, we will also tackle the logistics. You will walk away with concrete routines for managing materials, organizing math centers, and setting up behavior expectations so your math block stays focused on learning rather than cleanup.
