Measurement is unique: it is the bridge where arithmetic meets geometry and the real world. Yet, in many classrooms, it gets relegated to the end of the year or reduced to rote worksheet practice on how to read a ruler. What happens when we treat measurement as a continuous, K–5 conceptual journey instead?
This interactive workshop dives deep into the vertical progression of measurement standards. We will explore how early, informal tracking of length (counting shoe-prints or paperclips) evolves into formal units, standard tools, and eventually, the abstract concepts of area, perimeter, and volume. You will engage with hands-on tasks that highlight the cognitive shift from linear measurement to multi-dimensional space, and discover how to anticipate common student misconceptions along the way. Come ready to explore, measure, and leave with a cohesive framework to align measurement across your entire campus!
