Many students with autism know what to do but struggle with getting started, staying organized, shifting between tasks, or completing work independently. This session explores how executive functioning influences learning, behavior, and daily school performance while providing practical strategies that help students build greater independence over time.
Participants will examine common executive functioning challenges experienced by students with autism and learn evidence-based supports that promote task initiation, organization, self-regulation, flexibility, and independent problem-solving. Emphasis is placed on reducing prompt dependence and building the skills students need to become successful, self-directed learners.
This session is designed for general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, and other school staff who support students with autism.
This session is free to members of the Special Education Cooperative.
