Students who are both gifted and have autism, often referred to as twice-exceptional (2e), possess remarkable strengths while also experiencing unique learning, social, and executive functioning challenges. Because their strengths can mask areas of need—and their support needs can obscure their giftedness—these students are frequently misunderstood or identified later than their peers.
This session explores the characteristics of twice-exceptional learners and provides practical strategies for recognizing, supporting, and nurturing both their exceptional abilities and their individual support needs. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to create learning environments where these students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This session is designed for general education teachers, gifted and talented educators, special education teachers, counselors, administrators, related service providers, and anyone supporting students who are both gifted and have autism.
This session is free to members of the Special Education and Gifted and Talented Cooperatives.
