Building an Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Foundation with Facilitation Skills



ESC-20 provides professional development and resources to assist members of an Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee in developing an Individualized Education Program for a student with a disability through the use of facilitation.

Important Session Information:


This intensive two-day training prepares ARD/IEP team members with the strategies for conducting ARD/IEP meetings so that conflict is reduced and the focus remains on the student. In this session, participants use hands-on activities, simulated ARD/IEP meetings, and coaching to learn the critical attributes of conflict resolution and IEP meeting facilitation such as:
• Use of facilitation skills to make meetings run smoothly, efficiently, and collaboratively
• Use of an Action Plan focusing on student needs, and on timely and efficient IEP implementation
• Elimination of stressful power struggles, non-productive emotional conflicts, and “them vs. us” attitude
• Flexible problem-solving 
• Application of active listening techniques to the meeting process in order to build shared understanding and small agreements
