Important Session Information:

Through a collaborative project of Texas Education Agency and the Statewide Progress in the General Curriculum Network, Texas released a state guidance document, "Grading and Progress Monitoring for Students with Disabilities." This guidance document will be provided for participants attending the session and will serve as a valuable resource as we discuss grading practices. During the session, we will explore best practices for evaluating academic performance on grade level standards, with accommodations, modified curriculum, and/or students working on a prerequisite level.

Teacher learning objectives:

  • Understand the purpose and role of grades in an academic setting;
  • Discuss legal requirements for grading, data collection and documentation;
  • Determine appropriate use and purpose of formative and summative assessments; and
  • Understand the difference between grading academic content vs. reporting progress on IEP goals.
