Important Session Information:


This session will address §504 compliance in public schools from a common-sense perspective guided by the §504 regulations and OCR decisions, while dispelling common misconceptions about the law. Topics will include key fundamentals of the §504 process, including the purpose of §504 vis-a-vis special education, eligibility in the modern era of §504 after the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, the specific ways in which Congress chose to expand §504 eligibility in 2008, evaluation requirements under the regulations, challenges in evaluating potential §504-eligible students and determining the presence of physical or mental impairments, §504 Services Plans, periodic reevaluations/reviews and ideas on ensuring implementation of §504 Plans.
The review will focus on increased OCR enforcement activity and the benefits to public schools in maintaining effective §504 programs. Ample opportunities for Q & A will be provided throughout presentation.
