Low Incidence Disabilities
Being the Instructional Leader & Grading in the Low-Incidence Disabilities Classroom
ESC-20 provides training, technical assistance, and resources that support programs serving students with low incidence disabilities (severe and profound cognitive disabilities, medically fragile, deaf/blind).
Teacher Quality
Important Session Information:
This session will address two critical components of being a teacher in a low incidence disabilities (LID) classroom: being the instructional leader and effective grading procedures. Many teachers in a LID classroom are not only responsible for students but have the added responsibility of managing and/or coordinating with other adults that support the students (paraprofessionals, related services providers, private nurses, general education teachers, etc.). The morning will focus on being the instructional leader using the Working with Paraprofessionals document from TEA. Grading students that demonstrate understanding in unconventional ways can be very challenging for teachers in LID classrooms. The afternoon will reference the Grading document from TEA and discuss other methods that LID teachers can use to collect data for meaningful grades. This session will take place on December 4, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
