The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides procedural safeguards that are designed to protect the rights of a parent and their child with a disability and at the same time, give families and school systems several mechanisms by which to resolve disputes. This training will build a common understanding of these rights inclusive of parent access to student educational records, parent rights to participate in groups and meetings where decisions are made about their child’s education, as well as parent notification requirements and situation specific safeguards.
