Integrating Art and Creativity into the Elementary Curriculum (K-7)
Led by Joan Nagel and Tracy Weinberg
The arts are underdeveloped and underutilized in many schools, yet they offer rich avenues for intellectual and creative growth in all content areas. Investigate and participate in cross-disciplinary lessons that will have your students creating original and unique art work while building on core area concepts and vocabulary. These lessons also introduce students to famous artists and their works. The training includes an overview of common characteristics of giftedness and how creative activities provide opportunities for talent development and potential identification of gifted students from underrepresented populations. Lesson plans and strategies include core curricular and fine arts TEKS. While focusing on elementary grades and skills, the lessons and strategies can readily be adapted for older students.
