Early Childhood CDA Credential Training Series 2018-2019



Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) provides assistance to districts in the successful development and implementation of a school readiness integration model of coordinated funding that brings school districts, Head Start programs and child care providers together in a mixed delivery model.  ESC-20 also provides leadership to ensure the effective regional implementation of appropriate instructional strategies in early childhood settings through technical assistance and professional development in the areas of developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum and supports parents with Pre-Kindergarten information and eligibility criteria.

    - Understanding principles of child development and learning

  • The Essentials for Working with Young Children textbook  and competencies with content structured around the 6 CDA Competency Standards and 13 CDA Functional Areas, sample classroom scenarios, informational charts, diagrams, checklists and forms.

  • The Essentials Workbook with questions to help candidates reflect on what they've learned in the Essentials for Working with Young Children textbook, prepare their CDA Professional Portfolio and sample test questions to help candidates study for the CDA Exam.
  • In class and Out of Class Assignments 
  • CDA Application Fee $525
  • Classroom Observation & Verification Visit
  • Study Group for CDA Exam: Scores are electronically submitted to the Council by the CDA PD Specialist and Pearson Vue testing center.
  • One on One Guidance to Complete the Required Portfolio: You are required to put together a collection of reference materials related to your work.

Required to Enroll:

  • Earn a high school diploma, GED or be enrolled as a junior or senior in a high school career and technical program in early childhood education.
  • Documented hours of formal early childhood education training, covering the growth and development of children ages 3 to 5 years old, with no fewer than 10 training hours in each of the eight CDA subject areas. 

Within 3 years of submitting application:

  • Documentation of 480 hours of professional work experience in a center-based setting with children ages 3-5 years old.
