Languages other than English (LOTE)
Rescheduled: Getting in the Modes! (April 6, 2019)

The LOTE specialists provide professional development and technical assistance for the purpose of improving the linguistic proficiency of all students learning a foreign language. World language educators are invited to networking sessions. The following areas are targeted: research-based practices in foreign language classroom instruction and testing, the LOTE TEKS, the needs of heritage and non-heritage speakers, and the three modes of communication (interpersonal, presentational and receptive) essential to language acquisition in a proficiency-based classroom.

Important Session Information:

This workshop will focus on creating lesson sequences that fully incorporate the three modes of communication.  Participants will first work through a sample lesson sequence, beginning with interpretive activities centered on an authentic text.  They will experience activities designed to practice all three modes.  In the afternoon, teachers will work in small groups to create their own chain of activities practicing these skills within a unit framework of their choice.  Please bring your devices and teaching materials to help you develop the activities.

Participants must be TFLA members. Visit www.tfla.info for membership information.
