G/T 6 hour update - Integrating Art and Creativity into the Elementary Curriculum.



The Gifted and Talented program at Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) promotes and supports the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students through professional development and technical assistance. This is accomplished by advocating, designing and providing an array of learning experiences for teachers and administrators of gifted and talented students in order to enable them to provide a nurturing environment in which these students with special abilities, unique needs, and diverse backgrounds are recognized.

Important Session Information:


Integrating Art and Creativity into the Elementary Curriculum (K-7)(co-taught by Joan Nagel and Tracy Weinberg)

Investigate cross-disciplinary lessons for the elementary grades using mathematics, science, and language arts concepts and vocabulary that are supported with creative art activities. The training includes an overview of characteristics of gifted learners and how these activities can strengthen program services. It also offers opportunities for talent development and potential identification of giftedness in underrepresented populations. Lesson plans and strategies include core curricular and fine arts TEKS.
Primary Audience: Classroom Teachers; Educators of the Gifted

While focusing on elementary grades and skills, the lessons and strategies can readily be adapted for older students.

Please bring charged technology to the session to interact with the course materials

This course can take the place of a G/T Day 4 or 5. It can also take the place of a G/T 6 hour update if not previously taken.
