ESC-20 provides training and technical assistance to programs serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including assisting programs meet the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing across the continuum of placement options.

Important Session Information:


This session will provide an overview of phonology, phonemic awareness, and phonics in deaf education (from The Five Elements of Literacy and Deaf Education (Phonology, Phonemic Awareness, and Phonics)) as well as will dive deeper into the literacy elements of vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension in deaf education. Strategies to support targeted skills will be discussed to help students who are deaf and hard of hearing move beyond emergent literacy and closer to conventional literacy. (This session can be paired with session # 60921 The Five Elements of Literacy and Deaf Education (Phonology, Phonemic Awareness, and Phonics) which provides in depth information about phonology, phonemic awareness, and phonics in deaf education.)
