July 31; Session 1 - Is that written down anywhere?
The goal of this series is to encourage participants to develop a library program manual that is genuinely helpful and regularly consulted. A well planned, maintained, and followed program manual is invaluable to ensure the opportunity for consistent provision of quality library services to all stakeholders. The program manual also serves as a resource for advocacy, professional development, and provides any incoming staff with the necessary context and information to maintain continuing development of the library program.
Participants in the July 31 session will develop a library program manual designed to provide a comprehensive “how-to handbook” aligned with campus/district policies and guidelines. The focus of session 1 will be the investigation of what to include in the manual and why. Emphasis will be placed on the decision making process for inclusion as well as the philosophy and potential best practices behind each decision. A sample Google site template will be provided as a repository for the design and content management of a manual.
Participant takeaways:
- Opportunity to discuss and reflect with other librarians on the purpose of a library program manual and what should be included and why
- Time to investigate board, district, and campus policies as they align with library program goals
- A Google site to leverage the work created in each session
Note: Participants are asked to bring a laptop and charging cord.
