Facilitated (IEP) Individualized Education Program
When We Don’t Agree: Legal Rights and Practical Solutions to Special Education Disputes

ESC-20 provides professional development and resources to assist members of an Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee in developing an Individualized Education Program for a student with a disability through the use of facilitation.

Important Session Information:

Elvin Houston, an experienced special education attorney, will describe the rights and responsibilities available to parents and school districts under state and federal law when disputes over special education occur.  Leading a wide-ranging discussion of challenging ARD committee meetings, ARD committee meeting facilitation, special education due process hearings, mediation, and complaints, Mr. Houston will explore these facets of the law and their practical effects on the stakeholders who all work to meet the needs of students with unique disability-related needs. This professional development opportunity will be tailored to those with an interest in due process hearings, mediation, preparing for and participating in contentious ARD committee meetings, navigating disagreed ARD committee meetings, rebuilding relationships and even offering compensatory services.
