Career & Technology Education (CTE)
CTE – Strategies for Building Classroom Culture and Quality CTE Lessons

CTE instruction aims at developing foundational skills, core workplace competencies, and specific skill competencies in various occupational areas. Internships, practicums, cooperative education, school-based enterprises, dual enrollment programs, and apprenticeships are a few venues that deliver CTE by providing meaningful opportunities for leaners to apply their academic and technical skills. We serve the career and education community through targeted support for CTE compliance, program development and implementation with rigor and relevancy; bridging with postsecondary education and industry partners to build a global workforce, quality education programs and 21st century learners.

Teacher Quality

Important Session Information:

What is the opposite of a 6-hour "sit and get" training where the trainer opens up your head and pours in infinite wisdom?
It's a WORK shop...Chunk and Chew,...Make and Take... where what happens in the workshop makes your life better.
It's a chance to collaborate with other job-alike professionals and share the work you create together.
It's NOT boring! (and chocolate may be involved)
It's like a gift you make for yourself then unwrap when school starts.
It's the PERFECT way to make your TTESS POP next year when your evaluator walks in and see that the learners are leading the learning!
It's what you want your classroom to look like.
Call it what you will, but please plan to attend this opportunity to bring your laptop, your experiences (good or bad), and your own content and leave with actual units and lessons that are tailor-made to your classroom needs.

Principals from every district in Texas are expecting teachers to shift from "sage on the stage" to "learner-centered classrooms" and employ "SEL (Social Emotional Learning) strategies" that reach our diverse populations, but no one really tells you WHAT THAT MEANS!

First, we will explore, step-by-step, ONE student-centered learning strategy that is research-based and works for a wide variety of learners.
Then, you will have access to a sample CTE lesson or unit where that strategy has been applied.
And, you will work with colleagues or alone to plan out a lesson or part of a unit using that strategy.
Second, third, fourth, etc., we will do the same thing over and over again until you have your own archive of great stuff!

We will even explore a few strategies for building classroom culture and consensus that will make your classroom a hive of learning where students own their learning AND their culture. This will move resistant students to the center rather than dragging willing learners down.

Join us to hone your craft and make next year a stellar year for CTE instruction all over Your District!
