Career & Technology Education (CTE)
CTE - Helping Your Students Prepare For Life - Using Texas OnCourse – A Free Interactive Resource to Help Improve CCMR Accountability in Your District

CTE instruction aims at developing foundational skills, core workplace competencies, and specific skill competencies in various occupational areas. Internships, practicums, cooperative education, school-based enterprises, dual enrollment programs, and apprenticeships are a few venues that deliver CTE by providing meaningful opportunities for leaners to apply their academic and technical skills. We serve the career and education community through targeted support for CTE compliance, program development and implementation with rigor and relevancy; bridging with postsecondary education and industry partners to build a global workforce, quality education programs and 21st century learners.

Important Session Information:

Targeted to Middle School CTE Career Teachers and Counselors, but welcoming all audiences, participants will learn about Texas OnCourse and its free postsecondary and career advising tools that can support CCMR efforts for student planning and campus/district accountability. The Texas OnCourse Academy, an online professional development program, provides updated information and resources to faculty and staff on 30 postsecondary, military and career advising topics. Middle school students learn about a myriad of postsecondary, military and career options with the TEKS-aligned Middle School Curriculum in addition to a career exploration game called Middle Galaxy. Postsecondary, military and career conversations started at school can continue at home with the Family Guide, which helps parents navigate discussions with their students. Participants will learn how one school district in Texas is using Texas OnCourse resources to better assist and guide students to make informed decisions about choosing appropriate CTE pathways and clusters for their future success.
