G/T 6 hour update: Attending to the Social and Emotional Needs of Gifted/Talented Students (Devine ISD)

The Gifted and Talented program at Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) promotes and supports the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students through professional development and technical assistance. This is accomplished by advocating, designing and providing an array of learning experiences for teachers and administrators of gifted and talented students in order to enable them to provide a nurturing environment in which these students with special abilities, unique needs, and diverse backgrounds are recognized.

Important Session Information:

In order to effectively support the needs of gifted students, educators need to attend to the affect of gifted and talented students, and focus specifically on their social and emotional needs. Participants will examine characteristics of gifted students that tend to influence social and emotional needs. Participants will investigate research-based topics that present as challenges in the area of social and emotional needs of gifted learners, and closely examine the characteristics and qualities of educational environments that impact social and emotional strengths and needs of gifted students. Finally, participants will seek to understand strategies that may be used to empower gifted learners in order to effectively deal with challenges that may be attributed to social and emotional characteristics they possess.

This training can be taken instead of G/T Day 4 or 5.  It will also satisfy the requirement for a G/T 6 hour update.
