START SOME DRAMA: ESC-20 Early Childhood Language Development Micro-Credential Training Series



Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) provides assistance to districts in the successful development and implementation of a school readiness integration model of coordinated funding that brings school districts, Head Start programs and child care providers together in a mixed delivery model.  ESC-20 also provides leadership to ensure the effective regional implementation of appropriate instructional strategies in early childhood settings through technical assistance and professional development in the areas of developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum and supports parents with Pre-Kindergarten information and eligibility criteria.

Update on 4/28/20: Session on May 1 will be a Zoom discussing Plan B for completing credential. Please check your email folders for the information.

Teachers will earn a micro-credential certification indicating demonstrated competency in Early Childhood Language Development by participating in this blended model of learning. This series is not a traditional sit and get session. Rather, it will incorporate learning that is:

-Personalized and self-directed

-Focused on the needs of educators, students and schools

-Competency based, and

-Job embedded and practical

In order to complete the requirements for the Language Development micro-credential, teachers must fully participate in and complete the following over the program's nine month duration October to June:

Attend the START SOME DRAMA: Four Part Series Training which includes:

  • Overview of SSD Starter Kit (Included)

  • Pretend and Learn Planning Sheets

  • Integration of Plans: what you already do, not something new to do

  • Content Area Standards Alignment

  • Marketable “Soft” Skills

  • Career Ready VocabularyCareer Ready

  • Field Trip

 

  • Complete 1 Online Module

  • Actively engage in job imbedded coaching and follow up with ESC consultant.

  • Participate in ongoing reflective planning and questioning discussion board around dramatic play.


  • Document progress and evolution of dramatic play and language development in their classroom.

  • Collaborate with peers and ESC 20 on a Community Partnership Development Project for School Readiness.

  • Commit to present findings, experience, and share best practices with colleagues and at least one Early Learning Partnership Center. Kits will be provided.
