ESC-20 CyberSecurity Summit

Technology Leaders Meeting

Important Session Information:

ESC-20 CyberSecurity Summit

As of September 1, 2019, the Texas Legislation enacted Senate Bill 820, which now requires school districts to adopt a cybersecurity policy aligned with the Texas Cybersecurity Framework to:

  1. Secure district cyberinfrastructure against cyber-attacks and other cybersecurity incidents.
  2. Determine cybersecurity risk and implement mitigation planning.

In addition, each district must designate a cybersecurity coordinator to serve as a liaison between the district and the Texas Education Agency in all cybersecurity matters. Since this bill has been implemented, many school districts are faced with questions and concerns on how to ensure their school district is in compliance. To this end, ESC-20 will be hosting a Cyber Security Summit/workshop centered around these topics to help give guidance and direction on how to implement an effective cybersecurity policy.

Understanding that the framework is not a one size fits all solution, we will look at available resources that will work for your district’s needs for a cybersecurity solution. These resources will help your organization improve its security posture and simplify the Texas Cybersecurity Framework for a better understanding. Furthermore, recommendations, tools, references and templates will be provided to assist in the cybersecurity policy implementation at your organization.

Information on House Bill 3834 (86th) requiring a certified cybersecurity training for local government employees and the impact on Texas School Districts will also be covered at this workshop.

This workshop will be an excellent resource for district Technology Directors and/or their designated Cybersecurity Coordinators. With ESC-20’s cybersecurity program launch kit and information provided at this summit, we expect the district will gain confidence moving foward with the district’s cybersecurity policy implementation.
