This session is an introduction to dyslexia, and it will include information from Chapters 1 and 4 of the Dyslexia Handbook, 2018 Update. We will explore the characteristics and risk factors of dyslexia along with how these conditions may affect literacy development.
We will also examine requirements for instruction provided to students identified with dyslexia.
Participants will need a digital a copy of the Dyslexia Handbook, 2018 Update.
This session meets the criteria outlined in TAC §232.11 regarding continuing professional education hours required to renew teacher certification through the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).
COVID-19 Adaptation: Out of an abundance of caution, this session will be offered virtually. Due to this change, the format has changed. Participants will participate in a 2-hour Zoom and complete outside assignments to accrue the remaining four hours of credit.
Participants must have a desktop or laptop to participate, along with an adequate internet connection. Active participation of various forms will be required during the session in order to obtain course credit.
