Family/Community Engagement

Important Session Information:

We know that ARD (IEP) or 504 meetings are intended for the greater good of every child with special needs, but when conflicts arise it can be challenging to stay focused on the end goal. A successful meeting is not just about "getting to yes"; it’s about building trust through effective communication. Parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators can all benefit from using facilitation skills during the IEP process. Parents/Guardians will learn about IEP Facilitation, a process in which all team members learn 1) focused questioning and listening skills, 2) how to attack the problem and not the person, and 3) striving for a consensus that is agreeable to all parties. This session focuses on the importance of communication, relationship-building, and data to drive good decisions for students.
