Library Services
Build or Update the Library Program Manual

ESC-20 provides support in the areas of library services.

Important Session Information:

Note: This session takes place at Education Service Center, Region 20. Please be prepared to comply with the safety protocols in place.

Participants MUST bring a laptop and charging cord. Due to the safety protocols, no loaner devices are available.

The goal of this session is to encourage participants to develop a library program manual that is genuinely helpful and regularly consulted. A well planned, maintained, and followed program manual is invaluable to ensure the opportunity for consistent provision of quality library services to all stakeholders. The program manual also serves as a resource for advocacy, professional development, and provides any incoming staff with the necessary context and information to maintain continuing development of the library program.

Participants will develop a library program manual designed to provide a comprehensive “how-to handbook” aligned with campus/district policies and guidelines. We will discuss and investigate what to include in the manual and why. Emphasis will be placed on the decision making process for inclusion as well as the philosophy and potential best practices behind each decision. A sample Google site template will be provided as a repository for the design and content management of a manual.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to identify those program elements that best support the school community. Through discussion and critical thinking, participants will fully develop topics they choose to include in the Library Program Manual.

Participant takeaways:

- Opportunity to discuss and reflect with other librarians to fully develop each topic to be included in the manual

- Time to create and input the content for each topic

- A Google site to leverage the work created in each session
