ESC-20 provides training and technical assistance for professionals serving student with dyslexia. Students with dyslexia usually experience difficulties with other language skills such as spelling, writing, and pronouncing words.

Important Session Information:


Texas Dyslexia Academy 1: Dyslexia Foundations is the first of seven training opportunities developed to assist school districts and charter schools regarding dyslexia and related disorders. In this course, participants will learn how students acquire reading skills, why some students struggle in reading, what dyslexia is, and how to know whether dyslexia is the cause of a student’s reading difficulties. The objectives for this course are:

  • Explore the elements of reading

  • Define dyslexia, its characteristics, and related disorders

  • Explore the common risk factors for dyslexia

  • Understand associated academic difficulties and other conditions

Participants will need a digital copy of the Dyslexia Handbook, 2018 Update.

This session meets the criteria outlined in TAC §232.11 regarding continuing professional education hours required to renew teacher certification through the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SESSION IS PLANNED FOR A FACE-TO-FACE SESSION WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING.  If this changes, the dates may be impacted.
