Important Session Information:

This half-day workshop on The Test of Integrated Language and Literacy Skills (TILLS) is designed to meet the needs of the novice as well as intermediate/advanced professionals working with school-age students with language and literacy learning difficulties. The overall goal is to increase participants’ knowledge regarding standardized assessment of language and literacy skills, including introduction to the theory and framework of assessing school-age students’ oral and written language and the TILLS test model. In addition, the workshop will cover basic psychometric principles of standardized testing, as well as development, standardization, validation, and scoring of TILLS for its three intended purposes:  1)identifying the presence of a language/literacy disorder, 2) providing a profile of a student’s relative strengths and weaknesses, and 3) tracking change over time in language/literacy skills.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the two language levels of assessment that cross oral and written language modalities.

2. List at least two advantages for constructing a learning profile from a co-normed test compared to putting together measures normed on different populations.

3. Evaluate students’ writing samples for discourse, sentence, and word level abilities.

4. Graphically represent students’ language/literacy strengths and weaknesses.
