Highlighting the Strands of 1)Citizenship, 2) Culture, 3)Economics, 4) Geography, and 5) Government (Elementary-6TH GR)

Come discover how teaching with some of your favorite texts, mentor texts, is great for social studies instruction. Incorporate cross-curricular reading so that students have the background knowledge to successfully comprehend text passages on the STAAR Reading.  Through this 5 part series, we will highlight social studies strands and children’s books connected to content and model a lesson. Let’s stop fighting each other and help our students by bridging that gap between reading and social studies instruction, it’s literally social studies.

October 12 - Topic: Citizenship

October 21 - Topic: Culture

December 7 - Topic: Economics

January 13 - Topic: Geography

April 12 - Topic: Government
