Transform teacher-led parent-teacher conferences to student-led and focused meeting formats that engage students in the process. These conferences can provide powerful opportunities for students to advocate for their own learning.
Students led conferences present opportunities for students and parents to reflect on and discuss evidence of their learning and growth by way of student portfolios or "work" samples or demonstrations.
Whether you already hold student-led conferences or want to make a change, this session of practical resources will include examples and specific tools that will help you prepare for or improve these meetings.
Session will cover:
-Family-Friendly Description of Assessment Measures
-Steps for Communicating Data in Family Friendly Ways
-Words for Hard Conversations with Parents
-Defining the key components of student-led conferences
-The impact of implementing student-led conferences on the school community and overall school culture.
-Structures necessary to set us up for success with student-led conferences.
In order to receive full credit for this session (6 hours), participants will be given a 3 hour self-guided activity to complete by August 31st.
