Local education agencies (LEAs) have the option to participate in the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) program which provides specific medical services to some students with disabilities. The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) made substantial changes to SHARS policy. As a state agency responsible for training and auditing SHARS, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will provide guidance for the implementation of the new rules which are effective on October 1, 2021.
