Training Teachers How to Prepare Students for Welding Certifications
This three-day workshop will provide:
• Detailed discussion of Oxy-Fuel Cutting with a guide for teaching/certifying students
• Lab exercise where teachers will go through proper start up and shut down of the oxy-fuel system using multiple gases and developing a welding shop safety audit plan
• Basic overview of Stick and MIG welding
• Review of the American Welding Society structural and sheet metal welding codes regarding weld inspection and the qualification of welders
• Basic requirements for the visual inspection of welded plates according to applicable code acceptance requirements and detailed discussion of weld defects and acceptability
• How to initiate a student welder qualification and certification program in your school
• Tools to conduct a self-assessment of each instructor’s shop and welding program and use of cutting equipment
At the end of this workshop, each participant will complete documentation for certification in welding and oxy-fuel cutting and will be on a path to become a certified inspector and to administer certification testing to students.
The workshop will require each participant to bring:
• Welding helmets, welding gloves, long sleeves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes
• Chipping hammer, wire brush, hand grinder, pliers or vise grips
The host school site will be asked to provide:
- Stick welding machines, adequate for the number of participants,
- E7018 1/8” rods
- A horizontal band saw or abrasive wheel chop saw to cut welded steel plates
- Scrap metal pieces
