Counseling Our Highly Mobile and At-Risk Students
We all work with students who have unique needs, but our highly mobile and at-risk students face many special challenges. Join us to discuss the educational barriers often encountered by the following groups: students experiencing homelessness, students in foster care, students who are parents, military-connected students, and students who have experienced human trafficking. Participants will leave with information and ideas to help support these students.
Tools for Individual Counseling Sessions
School counselors possess many skills to aid in their versatility. Individual student counseling is a skill that has proven to be highly effective in schools. Counselors employ their expertise by identifying student problems as well as resolving these problems using established counseling methods. Have you felt the awkwardness of sitting across the table from a student? Do you struggle with silence? Do you feel like you are doing all the talking? Participants will leave with techniques and tricks to help students trust and begin to share their feelings.
