Most of what has been written about AAC assessment focuses on the selection of AAC apps, software, and devices. While it is essential to do those evaluations well, these types of assessments happen quite infrequently. The need for increased stakeholder involvement in planning the assessments will be discussed along with the development of Fair Testing Practices, which can be used as a blueprint for testing in clinical and academic settings. The use of language sampling and considerations in data logging will be addressed. Participants will also gain insight into strategies for observational assessments, formal testing, and the use of informal protocols. The session will conclude with a discussion on interpreting, disseminating, and utilizing assessment result.
