Speech-language pathologists frequently consider the possibility of dismissing a student who has previously received special education services under the qualifying condition of Speech or Language Impairment. In some cases, students no longer demonstrate a speech or language impairment, and in others dismissal is considered due to reduced impact of the disability on school participation. This workshop will focus on the legal requirements for dismissal, especially as they pertain to Speech or Language Impairment and will include considerations for best practices.
Objectives:
- Describe regulations for dismissal
- Characterize implications of dismissal regulations for district procedures
- Describe best practices in implementing dismissal procedures
